Mary Arline Widders, 95, daughter of Paul Zimmerman Evans and Lillian D. Musser Evans, born in Coatesville in 1918, and died at Fairmount Homes April 15, 2014.
In 1919 her family moved to Ross Street, Lancaster. Arline graduated from Geo. Ross Elementary and attended West Jr. High through her sophomore year. She then took special Y.W.C.A. training and graduated nursing in 1936 after training at Masonic Hospital, Elizabethtown, and did private duty nursing and worked one year at LGH before marrying Monroe Stauffer Widders in 1940.
They farmed in Kissel Hill five years, then as dairy farmers near Oxford, Quarryville and Blue Ball.
Arline worked for H.H. Weaver and Weaver Witwer for 23 years in the office.
She belonged to the Society of Farm Women #1 over sixty years and of the New Holland United Methodist Church 60 years where she taught Faithful Workers SS Class, was secretary of Women’s Society Administrative Board, and served in other capacities.
She also belonged to Blue Ball Sunshine Club and Ephrata Christian Women’s Club.
In 1971, they built a home at 795 Hollander Road where they lived 34 years until moving to Fairmount in 2005.
Surviving are her daughters Sylvia Burkholder (late husband Richard), and Nancy Ann, married to George W. Weaver, six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Monroe who died in 1998, she was also preceded in death by a ten day old son Sidney Richard Widders.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Apr. 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Road, New Holland, with Rev. Doug Bozung officiating. Private interment will be in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
