Mabel Hurst, 89, of 7 Azalea Ct., New Holland, died Wednesday, April 4 at Garden Spot Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Hurst, in 2002.
Born in East Earl, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Weber and Lydia (Witwer) Martin Weber.
Mabel had been a homemaker and a nurses’ aide at Ephrata Community Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering and her joy of baking wedding cakes developed into a catering business for her. She also enjoyed crafts.
She attended Lighthouse Tabernacle Assembly of God church.
Surviving are four children: Sidney E. married to Nancy (Coco) Hurst, Denver; Robert Lee married to Susan A. (Hess) Hurst, New Holland; Joanne married to Robert Van Dask, Lititz; William married to Bobbi Jo (Wallace) Hurst, New Holland; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mary Weaver, East Earl; Ida Weaver, Kansas; and Irene Rutt, New Holland.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Martin and Raymond Weber and five step-brothers: Edgar M. Martin, Ivan M. Martin, Henry M. Martin, Peter J. Martin and Amos Weber and a step-sister, Anna M. Martin.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30 AM at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland with Pastor Stephen Ritchey, Bishop C. Kenneth Martin, and Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 – 9 PM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and at the chapel on Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
