Mabel Grace Simpson

Mabel Grace, known as “Mae Mae” and “MG”, was born fighting. At only 4.5 pounds, she impressed everyone she met with her feisty spirit. She was born with a heart condition, called HLHS. She fought hard every day of her life, experiencing multiple Cath procedures, open heart surgery on bypass, two cardiac arrests, and ECMO. With all of these, she came out stronger than before and kept her smile the whole time.

Mabel made her time at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia eventful, with always keeping her team on their toes. She knew what she wanted, and she would tell you. If she didn’t have her “shusher” on or her binky in, she’d tell you about it quick. She was known to have hair bows as big as her personality. There was never a dull moment with Mabel. She interacted with every person she came into contact with, and there were a lot. All throughout the day, her teams of nurses and doctors would stop by just to see how ‘MG’ was doing. Her strength and perseverance were inspiring to everyone that knew her. Her happiest moments were always when she was being held.

Mabel spent her last day doing the things she loved: eating, being held, breathing all on her own without any support, and even went on her first stroller ride, which included going outside for the first time.

Mabel fought so incredibly hard every single day, with a smile on her face.

Mae Mae went home while being in the arms of her parents.

Mabel is survived by her parents, Noah and Ellie Simpson, maternal grandparents, Dwayne and Karin Lanz, paternal grandparents, Dean and Lori Simpson, maternal great grandparents, Deane and Wanda Boyd, paternal great grandparents, Dawn, widow of Leon Guigley, and Raymond and Linda Simpson and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents, George and Hazel Lanz.
