Maggie S. Horst

Maggie S. Horst, 77, of 1655 Main St., East Earl, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at her home. Her husband of 13 years, John M. Horst, survives.


Born in West Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Emma (Sensenig) Burkholder.


Maggie was a school teacher for 30 years in various Mennonite schools.


She was a member of Churchtown Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.


In addition to her husband, she is survived by nine step-children: Erma L. Horst, Morgantown; Kenneth S. married to Lillian (Martin) Horst, Phelps, NY; Twila married to Melvin Oberholtzer, Womelsdorf; Lucille married to Clair M. Good, East Earl; Marlin S. married to Carolyn (Hurst) Horst, Narvon; Curvin S. Horst, at home; Elva married to Aaron Z. Nolt, Jr., Ephrata; Loretta S. married to Elvin High, Jr., Ephrata; Orpha married to Jason Eberly, Myerstown; 38 step-grandchildren; 27 step- great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Anna Burkholder, Ephrata and Mary Burkholder, Myerstown.


She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Aaron Burkholder, Eva Shirk (Norman), Eli Burkholder (Edith Zimmerman), Titus Burkholder (Anna Mary Hess), Jacob Burkholder (Martha Zimmerman), Ivan Burkholder (Esther Zimmerman), Emma Burkholder, Elam Burkholder (Fern Burkholder).


Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Martindale Mennonite Reception Center with further services at 9:30 a.m. at Martindale Mennonite Church with Bishop Leon S. Zimmerman, Bishop Lester M. Martin, Jay Burkholder, Marlin Lauver, and John Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Martindale Reception Center on Sunday from 2- 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.
