Marilyn Loretta Burkholder, 83, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Conway Manor, Conway, SC.
Born in New Holland, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ellis Burkhart and Louella Burkhart Crouse Landis. Her husband, Mervin Burkholder, preceded her in death in 1991.
Surviving are a son, Nevin Burkholder (Dianne) of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Roberta (Robin) Burkholder Stock (William) of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren Ashley Burkholder and Travis (Michelle) Burkholder of Myrtle Beach; and four great grandchildren, Brady, Kip, Ella and Sadie of Myrtle Beach. She was a Step Grandmother to Shonna Cardello, Scott Stock and Chris Stock of York, PA.
Marilyn is also survived by four sisters who were extremely dear to her. They are Jeanette Cammauf, Paoli, Thelma (Tiny) Buch, Lancaster, Bette Buch, Ephrata, and Shirley Talbot, Lancaster. Marilyn and her sisters loved doing things together, such as chatting and laughing while doing needle point, cross stitch or cooking, grocery shopping, or just going out to eat with each other. They always enjoyed each other’s company, and had a lot of fun together. Their joint laughter was a true joy to hear and experience.
Early in her marriage, Marilyn was a homemaker. Later, she worked for the former Sperry New Holland in the mail room, and subsequently became a tour guide for Sperry New Holland plant tours. She particularly enjoyed being a tour guide, since she loved talking with all kinds of people. Marilyn also liked the years she worked in the Windsor Shirt Company store in the Route 30 outlets.
Late in life, she spent a lot of time with her precious little fluffy white Lhasa Apsa dog named Emily. Emily was her constant friend, and gave Marilyn cherished companionship and love. Emily is again keeping her company now, in heaven.
Marilyn moved to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2008 to be close to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to the beach there with her family, relaxing at the pool, playing with her great grandchildren, eating out and just spending many fun times with her family. She greatly enjoyed the warmth of South Carolina.
Marilyn was a member of Belin United Methodist Church, Murrells Inlet, SC. She was previously a long-time member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, PA.
Private services and viewing were held in Myrtle Beach December 24, 2013 for her immediate family living in South Carolina, officiated by the Pastor of Belin United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11 at 1 p.m. at Groff-High-Eckenroth Funeral Home in New Holland, PA. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 Noon until the time of service.
