Marshall H. Curtis

Marshall H. Curtis, 92, of 576 Valley View Dr., and Garden Spot Village, New Holland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Garden Spot Village.


Born in Burke, VA, he was the son of the late Frank Paul and Nellie (Marshall) Curtis. He was married for 57 years to the late Joan S. Curtis.


A veteran of World War II, Marshall served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a flight engineer in New Mexico from 1943-1946.


While living in Fairfax County, VA, Marshall was the first paid firefighter to retire from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Services. He retired as a Captain after 27 years of service in 1978.


Following retirement, he and his family moved to New Holland. He became actively involved with St. Stephen Reformed Church, serving on the Consistory, Property Committee, Cemetery Committee, and providing many other services for the church. He lived his faith through service to others as he travelled with Mission Outreach of St. Stephen (MOSS) to help re-build churches in Estill, NC, Birmingham, AL and other places. He also gave his time at Hartman Center, a church camp in Milroy, PA.


Marshall is survived by a daughter, Susan N. Curtis, New Holland, a brother Glenn H. Curtis, Fairfax, VA and a sister Barbara C. Young, Vinton, VA, and by many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a sister, Anne C. Brown.


The family and friends are grateful for the loving care he received at Garden Spot Village.


His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 24 at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Reformed Church, 249 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557 with Rev. Dr. Tim Witmer officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the St. Stephen Steeple Fund, address above.
