Martha Y. Bartel

Martha Y. Bartel, 90, formerly of Gap, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Landis Homes. She is together again with her husband, Marvin D. Bartel, who died in 2015.

Born in Monterey, PA she was the daughter of the late Enos and Annie (Yoder) Stoltzfus.

She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church. There she was involved as a Sunday school teacher and with Mennonite Women. She had also volunteered at the Country Gift & Thrift Shoppe in White Horse and at Landis Homes. She was an avid quilter.

She and Marvin met and served with M.C.C. for five years at Brook Lane Farm, Hagerstown, MD, helping establish the first Mennonite psychiatric hospital.

Surviving are five children: Cindy married to Jan Sohar, Kidron, OH; Maggi Freed, Lebanon; Rose married to Michael Weaver, Vero Beach, FL; Albert married to Marilyn Bartel, Willow Street; Jane married to Scott Haught, Gap; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three siblings: Salinda married to Floyd Weber, Denver; Titus married to Marian Stoltzfus, Lititz; Orpha S. King, Denver.

She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin W. Bartel in 2000 and three siblings: Nancy Byler, David Y. Stoltzfus, and Ruth Bowman.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 12 Noon at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel with Pastor Jon Carlson officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery, Gap on Thursday at 3 p.m. A viewing will be held at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
