Martha J. Brubaker, 85, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, formerly of Lancaster, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Garden Spot Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christian H. Brubaker, to whom she had been married for 21 years.
Born in Rapho Twp., she was the daughter of the late David and Cora (Miller) Wagner.
After graduation from high school, Martha went to school in Reading to be an X-ray technician. She worked at Ephrata Community Hospital and then at Lancaster General Hospital. She took a break from her work at Lancaster General to teach Bible School in Louisiana with the Mennonite Board of Missions, Elkhart, IN and then returned to the hospital, working for a total of 30 years until her retirement in 1984.
Martha and Chris were married on April 7, 1984. Together they enjoyed traveling to places such as Switzerland, Israel, Egypt, Germany, and a mission trip to Africa. They also enjoyed hiking together, learning about trees, flowers, and birds.
She was a member of Akron Mennonite Church and a volunteer at Mennonite Central Committee Material Resource Center.
Surviving are two step-children: Brooks C. married to Audrey (Singer) Brubaker, Lancaster, and Pamela J. married to Gregory Reich, Schwenksville and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Wagner and Marian Kauffman and a brother Paul Wagner.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 AM at the Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond Station Rd., Akron with Pastors Jim S. Amstutz and Michelle Dula officiating. Interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee, P. O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501.
