Marvin D. Bartel

Marvin D. “Bart” Bartel, 88, of 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, formerly of Gap, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Landis Homes. His wife, Martha (Stoltzfus) Bartel, survives. They had observed their 63rd anniversary on July 21.

Born in Halstead, KS, he was the son of the late David Andrew and Marie F. (Dyck) Bartel.

Marvin was a milk hauler for 26 years, retiring from John S. Ewell, Inc., East Earl in 1991. He had also served with M.C.C. at Brook Lane Farm in Hagerstown, MD and as a truck driver.

He was a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church where he formerly served as a trustee and Sunday School secretary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Cindy married to Jan Sohar, Kidron, OH; Margaret Freed, Lebanon; Rose married to Michael Weaver, Boynton Beach, FL; Albert married to Marilyn Bartel, Strasburg; Jane married to Scott Haught, Gap; 12 grandchildren living in DE, OH, PA, TX, VA, and CO; nine great grandchildren; three sisters: Mildred Mueller, Halstead, KS, Frances Bartel, Moundridge, KS, Dorothy married to Dale Dick, Halstead, KS and a sister-in-law Clara Bartel, OK.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin W. Bartel and five siblings: Albert, Roland, Olen, Ruth Marie Woodward, and Edna Clark.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at the Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel with Chaplain Jim Leaman officiating. Viewing will be held in the West Bethany Chapel on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will be in Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery, Gap at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
