Marvin E. Hershey, 90, of 9 Chestnut Dr., New Holland, formerly of Spring Garden, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at his home. Born in Salisbury Twp., he was the son of the late H. Rine and Grace D. (Hershey) Hershey. He was married 21 years on Dec. 19 to Ruth (Clark) Hershey. His first wife, Mary (Metzler) Hershey, died in 1989. Marvin graduated from Salisbury High School in 1938 and for a time served as Secretary of the Pequea Valley School Authority. He farmed the Dog Pump Farm near Spring Garden for many years with his father and later with his son Norman. After retiring from the farm he worked 14 years as warehouse manager for J.B. Zimmermans in New Holland. Marvin was a member of the Kinzers Mennonite Church and enjoyed playing the bass fiddle with Just Friends for 18 years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to his cabin in the mountains. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Marie, married to David Stoltzfus, of Edgewood, TX; two sons, Lewis, married to Vera (Denlinger) Hershey of Wasilla, AK, and Nelson, married to Suzanne (Artz) Hershey of Strasburg; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Moll) Hershey of Spring Garden; and five sisters, Nora, married to John Lefever of Lititz, Marian Hanna of Lancaster, Thelma White of new Holland, Ruth, married to Robert Clark of Quarryville, and Evelyn, married to John Harnish of Lancaster. Preceding him in death is a son, Norman L. Hershey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 2 pm at the Hershey Mennonite Church, 401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers with the Bishop Richard L. Buckwalter officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 1-2 pm at the church.
