Mary Virtue Hartman, 82, of Narvon, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sterling "Sonny" Hartman, their son and his wife, Michael and Deborah, their daughter, Jennifer (Hartman) Roy, and four granddaughters and a grandson: Kelsey Hartman- Messersmith, Christen Hartman, Amanda Roy, Lauren Hartman, and David Roy.
Mary was born in Hunlock Creek, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1934 to parents Amelia and Joseph Virtue, where her family ran an inn and tavern. She graduated from Saint Vincent High School in 1952. She and Sonny moved often after their marriage, but settled in Lancaster County, where they founded Country Store Antiques in Schwartzville. They spent much of their life together collecting and enjoying their antiques and tending to the store.
Volunteering at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center was an important part of her life as she was caring for her husband. She also provided comfort and support for the many other residents and their families.
Mary was a long time animal lover, and an active supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, Berks County Animal Rescue and the Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA, Inc., and the many needy animals that found themselves at her door.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 1 PM at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill PA 17581 with Pastor Ray Voran officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon- 1 PM at the funeral home prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary's honor to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
