Mary Ellen Yoder, 100, of Tel Hai Retirement Community went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2024, following a sudden decline.
Mary Ellen was born in Elverson, PA, to her late parents, John H. and Anna (Stoltzfus) Yoder.
Following high school, she enrolled in Goshen College, graduating with an associate’s degree. In1956, Mary Ellen went to Puerto Rico under VS where she worked at a children’s home for a little more than a year. From 1958 until 1973 she worked in Puerto Rico as a secretary for Audicion Luz y Verdad. After coming home, she helped care for her mother and father in their sunset years until their death. During this time, she also worked as a secretary for a lawyer and following that she worked at Reading Rehab Hospital.
Mary Ellen was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church, Birdsboro, PA. She loved the Lord and will be remembered as a kind, compassionate and grateful person. She enjoyed reading and memorizing scripture and singing hymns. A favorite scripture was Psalm 91, which she enjoyed reciting in her later years. A fond childhood memory of hers was of her dad singing hymns in the barn.
A loving host of nieces, nephews and dear friends survive Mary Ellen.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was predeceased by her four brothers, Tom, Jess, Maynard and Les and her one sister, Rosanna Hostetler.
A brief viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, beginning at 9:30 AM at Zion Mennonite Church, 528 Zion Road, Birdsboro, PA, followed by an immediate graveside service in the adjoining church cemetery. Reverend John Rush will officiate.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on April 26, 2025, at Zion Mennonite Church, 528 Zion Road, Birdsboro, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions are made to: Freedom Gate Ministries, 131 South 9th Street, Reading, PA 19602.
Arrangements have been entrusted to C. Stanley Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, PA.

A brief viewing for family and friends will begin at 9:30 AM in the church followed by the graveside service.
