Following six years of dialysis for kidney failure and declining health, Janie Zimmerman, of Leola, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024, at LGH. She was 65 years old.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Zimmerman; her daughter, Mary Lynn, married to Delmar Horning; her two sons, Ashley G. Miller, married to Laura, and Michael E. Miller; and seven cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest B. and Mary Ann Groff.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings: Leonard Groff, married to Delores; Linda, married to Philip Hollinger; Leah Faye, married to Leon Weaver; Barbara, married to Clair Long; and Ernest R. Groff, married to Glenda.
As a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her children fondly remember her unwavering dedication and love, which she demonstrated throughout her life. For over twenty years, she worked long hours at the Ephrata 322 General Store, earning the affection of many as the "Store Frau." She was known by all for her generosity, her passion for hosting, and her exceptional cooking skills. She loved preparing feasts to share with loved ones, making delicious meals from scratch, which brought her immense joy.
In her final 12 years, Janie worked in various food service roles at Shady Maple Farm Market, where her talents and love for serving continued to shine. A devoted member of the Worship Center in Leola, she also served in the children’s ministry for four years, impacting many lives with her kindness.
A viewing will be held at Groffdale Mennonite Church, 168 N. Groffdale Road, Leola, on Sunday, December, 15th, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at Groffdale Mennonite Church on TUESDAY, Dec 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
Her love, kindness, and memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worship Center.
