Melvin H. Horst

On Saturday evening, Melvin H. Horst, 90, bore witness to the scripture which says “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7 With his wife Elizabeth of 64 years and family at his side, Melvin rested from his labors, looking for the reward.

Born in W. Earl Twp., he was the son of the late John and Amelia (Hoover) Horst.

Melvin was a farmer for most of his life and then was an independent trucker driver. He was a member of the Groffdale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Glenn married to Janet (Hurst) Horst, Denver; Jane married to James Horst, Stevens; Evelyn married to Jacob King Leola; Larry married to Cindy (Knauer) Horst, Lancaster; Melvin married to Tina (Kraft) Horst, Rothsville; and Robert married to Greta (Galeschewski) Horst, Lancaster; 22 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 9 AM at Fairmount Home Wheat Ridge Chapel with further services at 9:30 AM at Groffdale Mennonite Church with Bishop Curvin Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday at Fairmount Home Wheat Ridge Chapel from 5 to 8 PM. Kindly omit flowers.
