Mervin L. Andrew

Mervin L. Andrew, 91, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, formerly of New Holland, died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy.

Born in Groffdale, he was the son of the late Harry and Sadie (Brubaker) Andrew. His wife, Arlene R. (Rhodes) Andrew, died Dec. 17, 2008.

Mervin worked 36 years as a mechanic for Amos Mentzer Auto Garage in New Holland and later for 15 years, retiring in 1990, in the maintenance department with Victor F. Weaver, Holly Farm, and later Tyson Foods.

He was a member of Conestoga Church of the Brethren where he formerly served as an usher. He was also a member of the Charles Ludwig VFW post 7362. During WWII he served in the US Army in North Africa and Italy.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Dowlin of Lancaster, and Sue, married to Jeff Anderson of Idledale, CO; two grandchildren, Sonya and Travis; three great grandchildren, Silas, Emilia, and Ezra Long; and a sister, Edyth Kreider of New Holland.

Preceding him in death are two sisters, Ruth Andrew and Helen Groff.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 am at Conestoga Church of the Brethren, 141 E. Main St., Leola with the Reverend Jere Cassel and Jeff Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the New Holland Mennonite Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 pm at Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606 and on Monday from 9-10 am at Conestoga Church of the Brethren.
