Mervin S. Horst

Mervin S. Horst, 94, went home to be with his Savior peacefully on June 25, 2026 at Garden Spot Village. He was born in Clay Township on December 27, 1931 to the late Joseph and Bertha Horst. In 1942 he made a personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ and became a child of God. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Minerva W. Horst. He is survived by his children: Eugene (Pamela) Horst, Shirley (Jay) Enck, David (Cheryl) Horst, and grandchildren: Tara Davis, Heather Morris, Matthew Horst, Jonathan Enck, Heidi Moore, Timothy Horst, and ten great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his siblings: Esther Burkholder, Lydia Ann Bowman, Grace Weaver, Ray Horst, Leroy Horst, Edith Horst.

Mervin finished school in the eighth grade to help his father with his Maier’s Baker route. His love of reading continued his education informally and later he earned a GED. He was the owner of M.S. Horst Auto Repair (1960-1979). While running his business: he earned a Bible Diploma from Lancaster Bible College in 1971, and he helped start Christian Fellowship Church, New Holland, where he served as Associate Pastor 1971-1978. In 1979 he sold his business and in 1980 he and Minerva moved to Little Valley, New York and planted Valley View Baptist Church. They lived in California (1984-1986) where he earned a Master’s Degree at Talbot Theological Seminary.

Mervin enjoyed hunting and fishing (he made 2 boats). He enjoyed camping with his family (he built all his campers). He enjoyed snowmobiling and trail bike riding at the cabin in Potter County. He traveled to Israel, Turkey, Europe and most of the US.

Mervin enjoyed teaching and preaching the Bible. He taught a Scofield Bible Class locally, taught Adult Sunday School, and while living at Garden Spot Village taught Bible Studies regularly. He especially enjoyed teaching about eternal security of the believer and end times.

The service for Mervin Horst will now be held at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA due to Christian Fellowship Church not having power. The visitation will be held from 9:30-11 AM and the service will begin at 11:00 AM. There will not be a meal following the burial. Groff High Funeral Home, New Holland, PA
