Mildred E. Burkhart, 91, of Terre Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Mildred and her late husband, Raymond, owned and operated Burkhart’s Amoco and convenience store in Terre Hill from 1956 until they retired in 1988. Mildred was a resident of Ephrata Manor since March 2012 and was thankful for the excellent care and the loving support she received there.
Mildred was a member of Trinity Evangelical Church in Terre Hill and a charter member of the Garden Spot Lioness Club. When she served as President of the club she received the Melvin Jones award for her work for Sight First. She enjoyed the many trips taken with friends called the Granny Van Bunch and her friend from the pinochle club. Mildred was an avid Phillies fan and she enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Mildred was born in Berks County the daughter of the late Levi and Edna (Wiggins) Bixler. Surviving her are a son, Larry, married to Cindy Burkhart of New Holland, and a daughter, Jane, married to James Beam of Lancaster. She is also survived by
four grandchildren, Mark and Andrea Beam of Lancaster, Alyssa Burkhart of Miami, FL, and Elizabeth Burkhart of Austin, TX. A sister, Kathryn, married to Robert Wanner also survives.
Preceding her in death is a brother, Richard Bixler, and a sister, Dorothy Hostetler.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2:30 pm at Trinity E. C. Church, 110 E. Main St., Terre Hill, with the Chaplain Sally Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at the Terre Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1:30 – 2:30 pm on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity E.C. Church, P.O. Box 247, Terre Hill, PA 17581. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be posted on our website, www.groffeckenroth.com.
