Mildred Mary Wentzel Irons, 96, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at Ephrata Manor. Millie was born June 23, 1915 in Mount Penn to the late Walter and Emma Wentzel. She was married to the late James L. Irons, Sr., who died in 1994. Millie Grew up the oldest of four children in Shillington. In 1941, she married Jim. They would move to New Holland after Jim completed service to his country in WWII. Millies priority was always taking care of her family. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she worked in the family business, Irons Food Store. Millie moved to Ephrata Manor in 1997 and enjoyed many years of independent living in her own apartment. She loved playing cards more than anything, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and watching birds at the backyard feeder. Playing bingo and listening to big band music brought her much pleasure, but she would gladly forego any of these activities to spend time with her family. She was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ in New Holland. Millie is survived by her three children: Jim, Jr., married to Susan Irons of Yorba Linda, CA, Sydne, married to Peter Fredrickson of Denver, and Rick, married to Lisa Irons of Palmyra. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Karin Rutt-Houser of Duncannon, Tyler Irons of Huntington Beach, CA, and Kelsie and Nathan Irons of Palmyra. A brother, Willard Wentzel and many nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding her in death is a grandson, Zachary Irons; and two brothers, Paul and Marvin Wentzel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9 at 2:30 pm at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland, with viewing from 1:30 2:30pm. Interment will be in the St. Stephen cemetery.
