After a brief illness in her 94th year, Miriam Brubaker Hess (Mim) of New Holland, stepped into her eternal home. She did so peacefully, and while surrounded by her family late Saturday afternoon, May 11th.
Miriam was the daughter of the late Milton H. and Edith Blanche Brubaker, and was the loving wife of the late Leon W. Hess with whom she shared 67 years of marriage prior to his passing in December of 2020. She is survived by son Timothy, married to Deborah (LeFlem) Hess, New Holland; daughter Heidi, married to J. Kenneth Long, Millersville; grandchildren Jacqueline (Hess,) married to Levi Geyer, New Holland; Mitchell, married to Caroline (Eberly) Long, Lancaster; Alison (Hess,) married to Ragen Horst, Lancaster; Britney (Long,) married to Caleb Clugston, Albany, Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren: Timothy, James, and Michael Geyer; Rowan and Iris Long; Miriam and Hazel Horst; Lennon and Cash Clugston. In addition to her parents and husband Leon, Miriam was preceded in death by a brother Arthur (with sister-in-law Betty) Brubaker, and nephews Richard and Robert Brubaker.
After graduating from Ephrata High School in 1949, Miriam graduated from Lancaster General Hospital’s School of Nursing. In addition to her primary career as a dedicated Homemaker, she served as a Nurse in the Ephrata Hospital and at the former (Children’s) Heart Haven of Lancaster, worked with her husband Leon in their farming and agricultural supply businesses, and volunteered (into her 80s) at Camp Conquest and with the Lancaster/Lebanon IU13.
A funeral service will be held for Miriam at 11:00 am, on May 20, 2024, at the New Holland Grace Family Church 415 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, where as a charter member she faithfully served in numerous capacities through the years. There will be an opportunity to fellowship with the family and friends immediately following the service. A private (family) interment will be held, prior to the service, in the cemetery at the Zeltenreich Reformed Church, New Holland.
Arrangements are by Groff-High-Eckenroth Funeral Home, New Holland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Miriam’s name, to CrossNet Ministries (New Holland) or Camp Conquest (Reinholds, PA.)
