Miriam E. Usner, 85, of 2499 Zerbe Rd., Narvon, formerly of East Earl, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy C. Usner in 1984.
Born in East Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late John S. and Harriet (Sweigart) Ewell.
A homemaker, she was a member for 71 years of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church where she served as a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the former Samuel Fear Chapter #417, Order of the Eastern Star. Additionally she was a charter member and past president and member of the Blue Ball Lioness Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are three sons: Richard L. Montgomery, Denver; Rodney L. married to Wanda Usner, East Earl; Donald L. married to Sally Usner, East Earl; a daughter-in law Deborah Usner, Terre Hill; seven grandchildren: Rodney Usner II, Jennifer Leaman, Franklin Usner, Marshall Usner, Matthew Usner, Derek Usner, and Sarah Eby; nine great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Hannah, Lilly, Olivia, Koy, Owen, Kane, Cooper, and Mitchell; two sisters-in-law, Betty Ewell and Helen Usner; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Dean M. Usner and Timothy C. Usner; three brothers: Harlan, Herbert and Herman Ewell; and two sisters: Jean Campbell and Harriet Sheaffer.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 10:30 AM at the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Hwy., East Earl with The Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak officiating. Interment will be in Ranck’s United Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. An Eastern Star service will be held Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the church (address above) or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation “Team Breathe for Olivia”, 55 S. Progress, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
