Muriel Luverne
Smoker
September 17, 1927 – April 30, 2026
Muriel Luverne Fisher Smoker, 98, of New Holland, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA. She was born in 1927 in Croghan, NY to her late parents Reuben and Adah Lehman Lyndaker. Her first husband, Carl J. Fisher, passed away in 1975 at the early age of 49. After Carl’s death she married Arthur Smoker of Intercourse, PA, who passed away in 2007.
Muriel was a longtime member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church. She will be remembered as a loving, selfless, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She gave sound and wise counsel with guidance not only to her children but to many others. Her home was filled with love and was open to everyone, always being greeted with her warm and welcoming smile. In retirement years she and Art enjoyed camping, wintering in Sarasota, traveling across the US, and trips to Europe and Ecuador.
Muriel is survived by her children Debra Miller and husband Jim of Lititz, Blair Fisher and wife Janice of Talmage, Darlene Robinson and husband David of Philadelphia, and Kurt Fisher and husband Dwayne Lawrence of Wyndmoor. She is also survived by her grandchildren Martin Miller, Jenna Miller, Jeremy Robinson and wife Vanessa and their children Emmett and Remy, Tyler Robinson and wife Beth. Muriel was also a loving stepmother, step-grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother to the Smoker family since their mother, Esther, also passed away at an early age. These stepchildren are June and husband Glenn Horst of New Holland, Jay Smoker (deceased), Karen and husband Carl Martin of Vermont, Joanne and husband Bill Zimmerman of Intercourse. She will be lovingly remembered by 10 step grandchildren, 22 step great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild.
Muriel was predeceased by her siblings LaJune Lehman and her husband Myron, Elwood Lyndaker, Ramona Zehr and her husband Walter, Kermit Lyndaker, Warren Lyndaker, Rhea Hunkins and her husband Donald, and her brother-in-law Wilbur Moser. She is survived by her sister Sharon Moser and sisters-in-law Edith C. Lyndaker, Edwina W. Lyndaker, and Nancy D. Lyndaker, all of Lowville, NY.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM in The Chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 South Kinzer Ave., New Holland with Pastor Chet Yoder officiating. The service will be followed by a luncheon. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at First Mennonite Church of New Bremen Cemetery, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Hopewell Foundation in c/o Caring Hospice Services, 101 Good Drive, Suite 100, Lancaster, PA 17603.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.

The family will greet guests following the service at a luncheon being hosted by the family.
