Nancy H. (Heistand) Hessemer, 88, of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Garden Spot Village. She was the loving wife of Paul B. Hessemer, with whom she shared over 66 years of marriage.
Born in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Evelyn (Gish) Heistand.
Nancy was a homemaker and raised her family in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where she was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered in her daughters' schools. In 1978, Nancy and Paul moved to Stockton, California, where Nancy continued her volunteer work, primarily at the San Joaquin General Hospital in the newborn nursery. She enjoyed painting ceramics, crafting, needlepoint, golf, crosswords and cryptograms. In 1993, Nancy and Paul moved back to the east coast, settling in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. She volunteered with the Chester County Family Court guardianship review program and as a mentor in the Kennett Square School District. In 2008, Nancy and Paul moved to Garden Spot Village in New Holland. She was a member of the Bangor Episcopal Church of Churchtown.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by 4 daughters: Pamela Givens of Essington, Amy Carr, wife of John, of West Grove, Barbara Speer, wife of Steven, of Midlothian, VA, and Rebecca Owston of Morrison, CO; her sister, Lillian Keck of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Bangor Episcopal Church, 2099 Main St, Narvon, PA 17555 on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mark Sheneman officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the church and from 3-4 PM at “The Park” at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland PA 17557.
