Obituary

Naomi M. Gehman, 87, of Ephrata, passed away on November 15, 2025. Naomi was born in East Earl, to her late parents, Raymond H. and Nora S. (Stauffer) Martin. She married Alvin H. Gehman on April 15, 1961, and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage this past April. He was her best friend and a loving husband.

Naomi was a loving, devoted, caring, and honorable wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Shortly after marriage, she and Alvin moved to Maryland to serve in 1-W service. While they initially planned to stay in the area only for their commitment, they remained for nearly 50 years— raising their family there and forging lifelong friendships with those at both Gaithersburg and Goshen Mennonite Churches and in their community. Naomi’s heart was always her faith, home and her family. She loved homemaking, reading, gardening, and volunteering, and she was faithful in the Word. She kept a prayer list close at hand and prayed daily for her family and friends. Her daily walks were a source of quiet joy and reflection. Serving came naturally to Naomi. She gladly gathered many around her kitchen table, taught Sunday School, and shared fellowship through the neighborhood women’s Heart-to-Heart Bible studies. She will be remembered as a generous and kind friend, one who never judged and who truly looked upon everyone with the grace and love of Jesus. After retirement, Naomi and Alvin moved back to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 2011, where they enjoyed their cottage and community at Fairmount Homes. She cherished attending services and fellowship at Cornerstone Mennonite Fellowship, volunteering in the gift shop, spending time with her dear sisters and continuing to nurture her most treasured roles as wife, mom, grandma, friend and, recently, great-grandma. Her gentle, genuinely caring spirit and steadfast prayers remained a blessing to all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Naomi is survived by her children, Linfred A. Gehman, of Sarasota, FL, and Cynthia J. Forry and her husband Myron, of Hanover, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Gehman, Jared Forry and his wife Autumn, of Hanover, Benjamin Forry and his wife Keturah of Portsmouth, VA, Sarah Forry, Jacob Forry and her great-grandchildren, Alexandria Forry, Theordore Forry and Hudson Forry. In addition, Naomi is survived by her sisters, Lois Martin and her husband Kenneth and Marian Harting and her husband Robert.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Road, Ephrata, PA, with Pastor Nelson Gehman officiating. Viewings will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the church, and again on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will occur immediately following the funeral in Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery, East Earl, PA.
