Norman S. Acuff, 81, born in the Puncheon Camp Community of Grainger County, TN, passed from this life on July 31, 2017 in Lancaster PA.
Prior to moving to PA in 2004, Mr. Acuff lived in the Northern Virginia area over 40 years. He had numerous full and part time jobs and then he found a place to settle in. He worked at Litton-Bionetics Research Labs, which conducted research on large primates, for approx. 20 years. Did lipstick contain harmful chemicals or what damage was done to your body if you were a heavy smoker?
Then the smoke and lipstick addled his brain and he and wife decided what fun it would be to buy a restaurant in Florida. What happened next? Less than 3 years later, he was back in Northern Virginia minus restaurant and wife.
Unbeaten he began again, working as the bartender, then the bar manager, and then as the manager of the club (home association) of American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax, VA. Stressed to the max and no longer the darling of post officers, he set off on yet another career. He became beer line cleaner/fixer extraordinaire for the Miller Beer distributor in Fairfax until he retired. The Legion was one of his clients. His last gig was transporting vehicles for the New Holland Auto Group.
He loved a good joke, a good steak, and good whiskey. He fished and hunted and had a fair amount of luck with both. He was in the U.S. Army during the Cold War and drove his company band all over Germany.
That’s 81 years in a nutshell, written with a sense of humor because he really did have one.
He is survived by his brother Hall (Gail Samota), sister Virginia Buettner (Will), nieces Melissa Tribuzio (Rob) and Janet Marney (Dave), nephew Carlton (Madonna), and many extended family members.
Family will greet friends from 1-2 PM on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland PA 17557. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, New Holland. Dress will be purposefully casual (suspenders welcome).
