Norman W. Sargent

Norman W. “Sarge” Sargent. 76. of New Holland, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was married 47 years to Rosemary A. Schaefer Sargent. Born in Worcester, MA he was the son of the late Hollis E. Sargent and Margaret Slattery Sargent Malloy.

Sarge was a graduate of Boundbrook High School in NJ. He was the retired owner of Sarges Painting Service. Sarge was a member of Salem Bible Church where he had served in the library, as the janitor, on the Tape Ministry, as Chairman of the Missionary Committee, and had painted the church twice. He was active in Scouting and was a leader of Troop 48 and had been Chairman of district activities. His interests included cutting down trees, yardwork, camping, canoeing, hiking, backpacking and was an avid reader.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, David Hollis Sargent of Conshohocken; a daughter, Holly Lyn wife of Robert Swartwood of Harrisburg; and two brothers, Paul Sargent of St. Augustine, FL, and Edwin “Ted” Sargent of VA. He was preceded in death by a stepfather William Malloy, stepbrother, William Malloy and stepsister, Kathy Malloy Surma.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Bible Church, 590 Voganville Road, New Holland, PA. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contribution in Sarge’s memory may be made to the Salem Bible Church, Church Library Fund, to Crossnet Ministries in New Holland email: elancocross.org or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation email: www.jdrf.org
