Norman H. Shirk, 84, of 1655 Ligalaw Road, East Earl, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Anna, in East Earl, after a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Huber) Shirk. His wife, Eva S. (Burkholder) Shirk, died Feb. 23, 2007. Norman was a member of Churchtown Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. Following his retirement as a farmer he operated a harness shop at his home. Surviving are two sons, Luke, married to Susie (Nolt) Shirk of East Earl, and Lloyd Shirk with whom he resided; three daughters, Elva, married to Aaron Burkholder of Kutztown, Emma, married to Adam Martin of Newville, and Anna, married to Luke Brubaker of East Earl; 29 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters, Phares, married to Arlene (Newswanger) Shirk of Narvon, Anna Shirk of East Earl, Rufus, married to Rebecca (Brubacher) Shirk of East Earl, Enos, married to Erma (Mellinger) Shirk of Indiana, and Harvey, married to Joann (Morgan) Shirk of New Holland. Preceding him in death are six children, Aaron, Jonas, Norman, Paul, Mary, and Eva Shirk. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 9 am at the home of Luke Shirk, 1649 Ligalaw Road, East Earl with further services at 9:30 am at the Weaverland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the home of Luke Shirk (address above) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers.
