Norman J. Stoltzfus

Norman J. “Norm” Stoltzfus, went home to be with his beloved wife and our mom, Betty, on November 19, 2024.

He was born on August 5, 1933, the son of the late Clarence and Barbara Stoltzfus.

He was preceded in going home by our mom, Betty, grandson Peter, and brother Marvin.

Pop married the love of his life, Betty, on October 19, 1955 and they were together just shy of 69 years.

He was a member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street.

In his early years, Pop worked for El-Mor Chevy, Morgantown and drove truck for Ira Hartz in the Morgantown area. After marrying our mom, he went to work as a carpenter for our grandfather, Henry Tyson. In the early 60’s he transitioned to the body shop at Henry E. Martin Truck Sales in Lancaster. During that time, he and fellow worker, Roy Goff, started a part time body shop at our home in Monterey, called Roy and Norm’s. Pop then moved on to the New Holland Machine Company as a welder and then a punch press operator, retiring after 25 years.

In retirement, he drove a truck for Glick Water Service in Smoketown, worked at Manheim Auto Auction and worked for a brief time for New Holland Fence. He also spent a few years as a member of Upper Leacock Fire Co. as a fire police officer.

Pop was very interested in our family history. He spent a lot of time researching our lineage back to the first Stoltzfus that came to America in 1765 on a homestead outside of Reading, PA. It was a joy to take Pop to see the homestead and reminisce with the caretaker about folks they knew in the Morgantown area. It was great to hear him repeat a rhyme in Dutch that he had heard many years ago. He also took the time to research his mother’s side of the family and in 2023, published a book with all his findings. He was quite proud of that.

He is survived and will be missed by son, N. Douglas Stoltzfus, Lancaster, daughter, Brenda Chow, wife of Peter Chow, Columbia and son, Lamar E. Stoltzfus, husband of Janice Stoltzfus, Kejabi, Kenya, five grandchildren, James D. (JD), Nick, Heather, Alyssa and Donovan, six great grandchildren, Rose, Ethan, McKenzie, Zephria, Kaylee and Braden. Also survived by sisters, Mary Boll wife of Nevin Boll and Nancy Good and sister-in-law, Emily Stoltzfus.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Growing with Grace, make check payable to Grace Community Church – Growing with Grace, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA 17584.
