Paul W. Brendle, 94, of 1379 Oaklyn Dr., Bowmansville, died Friday, August 9 at the Reading Hospital emergency room. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Lorah) Brendle in 1986.
Born in Mohnton, he was the son of the late Esaias and Katie (Wise) Brendle.
During World War II, he served in the 8th Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant with the 38th Transport Squadron in the South Pacific. Towards the end of World War II, one of his last tasks was servicing the Enola Gay in Hawaii.
Paul’s last job was at Cinderella Knitting Mills before retiring.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville and a life member since 1980 of the Brendle Coleman Post #8795, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adamstown.
He is survived by a daughter Fay Groves, Minden, NV and a son Kenneth Brendle spouse of Katherine Dippner Brendle, Narvon; four grandchildren: Kevin Brendle spouse of Loyda Delgado Brendle, Narvon, Kimberly Brendle Boyer spouse of Todd Boyer, Denver, Kristi Brendle Regitz spouse of Brent Regitz, Ephrata and N. Reid Groves spouse of Gemini Moler-Groves, Dublin, OH and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and James Brendle.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at Bowmansville Union Cemetery with Rev. Brad Haws officiating. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to a charity of one’s choice. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.
