Paul Douglas Hess

Paul Douglas Hess, 78, of Mohnton, passed away on November 18, 2024 at Reading Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Paul B. and Mary Jane (Wiley) Hess.

He had proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an active partner of Moving Communities to Christ Church in Elverson, where he was a door greeter every Sunday and loved to help with the annual Easter egg hunt, where he would rematch and sort eggs with this last year sorting almost 31,000 eggs!

His dream and passion was farming. He lived the last 50 years on a small farm and loved everything that was farming related. Doug was first employed by Bethlehem Steel as a diesel mechanic, later he co-owned Hess Siding and retired from Timet in Morgantown.

Doug is survived by his children, Erica, wife of Chris Lucas of Edgewater, FL and Jason, husband of Lynnette Hess of Mohnton; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Chris Jr., Genisus, Zachary, Cole and Aziel and great grandchildren, Anthony, Kurtis, Carson and Peyton. Also surviving are his siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Hackman, Mary Lou, wife of Ronald Wenger and Jack, husband of Kimberly Hess.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jane Anderson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Moving Communities to Christ Church, 4221 Main Street, Elverson PA 19520 with Pastor Bill Wright officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ as he often spoke of the impact the Salvation Army had on the injured soldiers during the Vietnam war.
