Paul Hull Ekdahl

Paul H. Ekdahl (89), of Freehold, NJ died peacefully at home on January 22, 2025. He was born in Englishtown, NJ on 02/05/35 and spent most of his life working at his passion for growing and selling flowers at Ekdahl’s Greenhouses in Freehold, NJ.

In the early 1960s, Paul, with his wife Janet, built the nursery business specializing in geraniums and nursery stock under the guidance of his father-in-law, Frank Moreau of Moreau Plant Company.

He had a lifelong enthusiasm for learning, creating, and inventing and was always enthralled with the beauty of a perfect flower blossom or a dazzling sundog. In his youth, he enjoyed volleyball, softball, and weightlifting.

Paul always had a smile, a story, a joke, and invariably a bouquet of flowers to share with everyone he encountered.

Paul is survived by his three children; Timothy J. Ekdahl of Hope Mills, NC (widowed), Dawn Rise Ekdahl, Narvon, PA and Wendy C. McCooey, Birdsboro, PA (Patrick McCooey); three grandchildren, Kevin Ekdahl, Isabella and Bridgette McCooey; and also two siblings, Jack Ekdahl and Joan Iverson, both of Freehold, NJ. He is preceded in death by his wife Janet L. Matthews, and siblings William Ekdahl, Hazel Vogel, Erma Cornell, Doris Megill, Lillian Patrick and Fran Breslin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Freehold this summer when the family can also join together for a private interment at Old Tenant Cemetery.
