Paul Burkholder Hurst

Paul Burkholder Hurst, 91, of Ephrata, died at his home on Saturday, February 10, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary (Weaver) Hurst on June 1, 2023.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Lydia W. (Burkholder) Hurst and stepson to the late Esther K. (Burkholder) Hurst.

A retired farmer, he was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving are four sons: Clair L. husband of Lorraine H. (High) Hurst of Kirkwood, Lawrence W. husband of Eva Jane Z. (Zimmerman) Hurst of Loysville, Paul W. husband of Wilda M. (Hursh) Hurst of Ephrata, Mark W. husband of Kathryn M. (Martin) Hurst of Myerstown, five daughters; Janice W. wife of Nevin Z. Martin of East Earl, Jean W. Hurst of Ephrata, Marie W. wife of George N. Hoover of Elizabethville, Lorene W. wife of Glen R. Martin of Jonestown and Wilma W. wife of Harold M. Wise of Lebanon. Also surviving are 59 grandchildren, 178 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, a stepbrother, Ivan B. Hurst husband of the late Mary O. (Martin), Ephrata, and a brother-in-law John Martin, Lancaster.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Noah B. married to the late Mabel (Zimmerman) Hurst, Frank B. married to the late Anna Mary (Good) Hurst, six sisters: Emma B. Horning, wife of the late Aaron Hoover and the late John B. Horning, Katie B. wife of the late John B. Horning, Lydia B. wife of the late Ivan Hoover, Mary B. wife of John Martin, Esther B. wife of the late Elmer Kurtz and John Martin, Alta B. wife of the late Stanley Martin, two step-brothers: David B. Hurst and John B. Hurst, a step-sister, Lizzie B. Hurst, two grandchildren, Miriam wife of the late Wesley Newswanger and Wesley Hurst, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

His funeral will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Martindale Mennonite (Frame) Church with Bishop Amos G. Martin, Joseph Martin, Nathan Martin, Wilmer Hurst, and Frank Horning officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martindale Mennonite (Frame) Church and on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, is in charge of arrangements.
