Paul A. “Pete” Messner, 71, of Center Church Road, East Earl, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Ralph K. and Odres L. (Lambert) Messner. He was married 53 years on July 30 to Thelma (Bowman) Messner.

Pete worked for several years for Burkholder Excavation and later for Terre Hill Concrete for 29 years, retiring in 2005.

He was a 52 year member of Mt. Culmen Evangelical Congregational Church. He enjoyed car and motorcycle shows along with hunting and attending the New Holland horse auction on Mondays.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Kevin, married to Nancy (Welsh) Messner of Intercourse, Jere, married to Deb (Riggins) Messner of East Earl, Tracy, married to Doug Merschen of Leola, and Shannon Messner at home; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Edna, married to Richard Binner of Ephrata, and a brother Barton Messner of East Earl.

Preceding him in death is a brother, Robert Messner; and a sister, Kathleen Messner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 11 am at the Mt. Culmen E.C. Church fellowship hall with the Reverend F. Kenneth Hoffer officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Southeastern Branch, 2018 State St., East Petersburg, PA 17520.
