Pauline Landis Rutt, age 92, formerly of Gordonville, PA went home to be with her Lord on August 15, 2024. Born in Bedminster Township in Bucks County, PA on January 2, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Alice Freed Alderfer and the late Howard Moyer Landis. She was married to Glenn E. Sauder Rutt on September 13, 1952.
Pauline graduated from Hilltown Township High School in 1949 and from Grand View Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Fairfield State Hospital in Newtown, CT while her husband, Glenn was in alternate service during the Korean Conflict. She also worked as a case manager for special needs children and their families at the S. June Smith Center in Lancaster for 10 years; a position she found rewarding and fulfilling. In addition, she worked as an RN at Tel Hai Retirement Community before retiring from Nursing.
Pauline enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, reading and growing flowers in her garden. She and Glenn supported refugee resettlement through their church and in the process, developed life-long friendships with several refugee families. She also volunteered at the Intercourse Public Library for many years. Her life was a testament to her faith. She was known for her kind and gracious spirit, gentle service and care for others. She was always available to assist anyone with a helping hand or a listening ear. She impacted the lives of many; young and old alike through her personal and professional life.
Pauline was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler, son of Robert and Regina Rutt. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Linwood Landis and a sister, Kathryn Landis Slabaugh.
Pauline is survived by her husband of 71 years, Glenn E. Rutt; two sons, G. Roger Rutt, husband of Pamela Rohrer Rutt, Lancaster; Robert D. Rutt, husband of Regina Brunk Rutt, Blooming Glen, PA; two daughters, Ann L. Rutt, wife of Richard L. Buckwalter, Lancaster and Jane M. Rutt, wife of D. Richard Augsburger, Lancaster. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Stumptown Mennonite Church on September 7 at 11 AM. The family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 AM.
Gifts in memory of Pauline may be given to Stumptown Mennonite Church or Mennonite Central Committee. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.groffeckenroth.com.
