Peggy Ann S. Friday, a devoted mother, grandmother, and steadfast woman of faith, entered into the presence of her Lord on July 8, 2025 in New Holland. Born in Philadelphia, she was the cherished daughter of Russell A. and Helen Mae Cook, whose love and guidance shaped the compassionate heart she shared so freely with others. Peg’s life was a beautiful reflection of grace, strength, and persevering faith. An honored graduate of Frankford High School, class of 1948, she carried a strong work ethic and a spirit of excellence into her career. She worked at Bell Telephone Company, bringing her signature kindness and diligence to all she did. After her children were in school, she dedicated 22 years to Meridian Bank working as a head teller, where her warmth and integrity left a lasting impact on colleagues and customers alike. Faith was the foundation of Peg’s life, guiding her through every season with courage and hope. She worshiped and served diligently in several congregations, including Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, Morrisville Church, and Grace Episcopal Church in Hulmeville. Her love for music found expression in the Women’s Episcopal Church Choir, where she sang with both passion and praise, touching hearts with her voice.
Peg’s hands were never idle—whether she was baking a cake to brighten someone's day, crafting intricate cross-stitch pieces with love in every stitch, or knitting warm gifts for family and friends. She embraced life with joy and curiosity, finding beauty in simple moments like attending the farm show and celebrating the hard work of others.
Though gentle in spirit, Peg’s love for her family and many friends was devoted and unwavering. She poured her heart into her children: a daughter, Virginia (husband Nelson) Gilfillian of Lebanon, TN; daughter Laurie (husband Lee) Rosenau of Ocean City, NJ; son George H. (wife Marie) Mecleary Jr.; and son Christopher (wife Ann) Mecleary. Her influence extended through generations, as she lovingly embraced 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and stepchildren Dana (Paul) Auerbach, Jane (Euphemio) Rivera, James Friday, and the late Anne (John) Teal.
Peg was welcomed into eternity by her beloved son George H. Mecleary, Jr, loving husband, Daniel R. Friday; her parents; her sisters, Elizabeth S. Dike, Isabelle S. McGrody, Lois Johnston, and her cat Kiki — all of whom paved the way before her with love and faith.
