Phares W. Hurst

Phares W. Hurst, 94, of Ephrata, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at his home.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Isaac Z. and Lizzie (Weaver) Hurst. His wife, Anna Mae (Snyder) Hurst, died Aug. 17, 1994.

Phares was a farmer and a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church where he served as a deacon since 1968.

Surviving are six children, Marvin S., married to Ada (Shirk) Hurst of Savannah, NY, Arlene S., married to Melvin Martin of Seneca Falls, NY, Earl S., married to Ruth Ann (Martin) Hurst of Ephrata, Edna Mae, married to Clair High of Lebanon, Raymond S., married to Lois (Good) Hurst of Denver, and Aaron Eugene, married to Janice (Weaver) Hurst of New Holland; a daughter-in-law, Martha Jane Hurst of Leola; 43 grandchildren; 192 great grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sons, Lester S. Hurst and Phares S. Hurst, Jr.; a granddaughter, Emily High; three great grandsons, Ethan Hurst, Charles High, and Joseph Wenger; and 11 brothers and sisters, Reuben W. Hurst, Katie W. Hurst, Annie, wife of the late Michael Nolt, Frances W. Hurst, Isaac W. Hurst, Aaron W. Hurst, Amos W. Hurst, Lizzie Weaver, Lydia Nolt, Edna, wife of the late Leon Martin and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 15 at 9 am at Fairmount Homes, Farmcrest Chapel, 1100 Farm Crest Dr., Ephrata with further services at 9:30 am at Groffdale Mennonite Church with the Bishop Curvin Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 pm at Fairmount Homes, Farmcrest Chapel. Kindly omit flowers.
