Phares S. Hurst

Phares S. Hurst, 84, of 233 E. Maple Grove Rd., Narvon, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his home. His wife, Annie S. (Martin) Hurst, survives. Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Isaac E. and Lena (Shirk) Hurst. He was a painter and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children: Anna married to Lloyd Fox, Ephrata; David married to Eva S. (Martin) Hurst, Shippensburg; Ella widow of the late Martin Fox, Penn Yan, NY; Joseph married to Lavina L. (Hoover) Hurst, Plymouth, OH; Mary married to John Hoover, East Earl; Phares, Jr. married to Marian M. (Martin) Hurst, Narvon; Martha married to Mervin Newswanger, East Earl; Esther married to Paul H. Burkholder, Kutztown; Annetta married to Amos Z. Sauder, New Holland; 66 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; and a brother Isaac S. Hurst, Penn Yan, NY. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, a son-in-law, brothers Joseph, Frank and Amos Hurst and sisters Lydia Zimmerman and Anna Zimmerman. His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 19 at 9 AM at his late home with further services at 9:30 AM at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at his late home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. Kindly omit flowers.
