Philip M. Horning, 65, of Lancaster County died Saturday, July 12, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Melissa (Gill) Horning, the father of Ashley (Horning) Palmer, Thomas Horning, and Andrew Horning, and grandfather of Evangeline Palmer and Abigail Horning.
Son of the late Alvin B. and Sarah (Martin) Horning, Philip was born in Fleetwood, Berks County.
For 20 years, Philip was a real estate appraiser, specializing in farmland preservation for various Pennsylvania counties.
Philip earned a bachelor’s from University of Minnesota and pursued graduate degrees in journalism and psychology.
Philip’s many interests included travel, writing, books, food, history and politics.
He also is survived by siblings Florence (Horning) Stoltzfus, Atglen; Helen (Horning) Lehman, Lancaster; Doris (Horning) Stoltzfus, Lititz; Alvin B. Horning, Jr., Morgantown; Janet (Horning) Hartzler, Manheim; Eileen (Horning) Byler, Akron; and half-sister Eleanor (Snyder) Kauffman, Columbia.
Philip was predeceased by brothers Elton, Leonard, and Kenneth Horning, and half-siblings Melvin and Mildred (Mast) Horning.
Visitation with the family from 2-4 at Bowmansville Mennonite Church on Sunday, July 20, followed by a memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
