R. Glenn Sweigart

R. Glenn “Dutch” Sweigart, 84, of 262 Locust St., New Holland, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center in Lancaster after a brief illness.

Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Reuben E. and Mary (Nonnemacher) Sweigart. He was married 62 years on June 11 to Dorothy (Burkhart) Sweigart.

Dutch worked 41 years at the former Sperry New Holland plant retiring in 1985 as Supervisor of Loading. Later he delivered pies for TNT Bakery in Bowmansville and also worked for Dicks Gun Shop in Blue Ball.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland and a former member of the Speedwell Forge Fishing Club. He enjoyed Fox Hunting and raising Beagles. He was also proud to be a part of the 1945 New Holland High School Boys Basket Ball championship team.

He served his country during WWII from 1945-1946 in the US Marines, 1st Division, serving in China.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Karen, married to Barry Bachman of Columbia, and Denise Conners of Leola; a granddaughter, Courtney Springer; two step granddaughters, Corinda and Amy Bachman; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Isaiah Springer; two step great grandsons, Corey Ward and Darius Bachman; a step great-great grandson, Brody Balchunas; a sister, Jennie, married to John Lahet of Tucson, AZ; and a brother, Tom, married to Linda Sweigart of Rushylvania, OH.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, Donald and Richard Sweigart; and two sisters, Charlotte McClarigan and Mary Lou Eitnier.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557 with the Reverend David Klepper officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday from 7-9 pm at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland and on Tuesday from 10-11 am at the Church.
