Rachel M. Martin, 58 of Gristmill Road, New Holland, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital after a one week illness.

Born in Leonardtown, MD she was the daughter of the late Weaver W. and Mabel B. (Martin) Martin.

Rachel worked as a typist for some local publications and she volunteered at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center and at the Center for Health at Garden Spot Village.

She was a member at the Cocalico Christian Brotherhood. She was in a wheelchair since five years old due to Polio.

Surviving are seven brothers, Elvin, married to Ellen (Halteman) Martin of Souderton, Leroy, married to Rachel (Zeiset) Martin of East Earl, Daniel, married to Patricia (Hostetler) Martin of Richland, James, married to Linda (Johnson) Martin of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Timothy, married to Elsie (Glick) Martin of New Holland, Lloyd, married to Roxann (Stauffer) Martin of Fivepointville, and Edwin, married to Dorothy (Bailey) Martin of Ephrata; seven sisters, Lucy, married to Robert Stauffer of Ephrata, Elsie, married to Michael Reaver of New Holland, Mary Martin, with whom she resided, Alta, married to Leon Brubaker of Fivepointville, Anna, married t o James Auker of Homer City, Ruth, married to Russel Auker of Ephrata, and Julia, married to Elmer Brubacher of Leonardtown, MD; 44 nieces and nephews; and 99 great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are four nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 15 at 10 am at the Martindale Reception Center, 352 Martindale Road, Ephrata with the Reverend Dave Witmer officiating. Interment will be held at the Pike Mennonite Cemetery. To honor Rachel’s wishes, there will only be a private family viewing. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
