Ray was born in Sanford Maine, one of nine children of Phillip and Alice Watson. After graduating High School, he hitch hiked to California looking for different opportunities than were available to him in rural Maine. There he met his future wife, Betty (Pedrick) and began working an entry level job in the underwriting department at the Insurance Company of North America. He and Betty were married in June of 1953 and their son Tom was born in June of 1954. Ray worked in Insurance until his retirement. His career took him from Los Angeles to Washington D.C., New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Honolulu. After retiring he spent his time traveling with Betty to their favorite spots, the Smokey Mountains, the Everglades and Cape May for bird watching and photography. The rest of his time was spent gardening and trying to keep up with his grandchildren Michael and Zebbie. He and Betty have enjoyed living at Garden Spot Village for 14 years and at this time the family like to give a special thanks to the crew at Winter Garden for the compassionate care they gave Ray in his final days.
Services will be private. Anyone wishing to honor Ray is invited to make a donation to the Garden Spot Benevolent Fund in his memory.
