Richard B. Dicks

Richard B. Dicks, 86, of Lititz, formerly of Lancaster, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at his home.


Born in Mt. Pleasant, PA he was the son of the late Joseph B. Dicks and Janet (McIndoe) Crow. He was married 58 years on Dec. 7 to Kay (Warfel) Dicks.


Richard served proudly in the US Army in Alaska from 1946-1948.


He was a representative for Lutheran Brotherhood for 35 years, now called Thrivent Financial. He retired in 1998 after serving his clients well. He received many honors for the work that he did including being a charter and life-long member of Top Club, the Lutheran Brotherhood Hall of Fame, and qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table every year in his business. He served his profession well by being president of both the Lancaster Assoc. of Life Underwriters and Chartered Life Underwriters.


Richard also served his community as a board member and treasurer for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Lancaster YMCA Youth Committee.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lititz, and was formerly a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served on council, various committees and the Synodical Cabinet of the the Lutheran Church of America.


Richard was an avid golfer while he was working and after he retired.

When he retired he and Kay wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida where he enjoyed coordinating church services for Woodsmoke Camping Resort.


Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Russel W., married to Barbara (Brutlag) Dicks of Lititz, Richard B. Jr., married to Patty

(Blanchard) of Erie, and Sheryl, married to Ray Van Order of Mt. Joy; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Carol Hamilton of State College, and Susan Whitehorst of Chelsea, AL.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 12 Noon at Salem Lutheran Church, 26 Owl Hill Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 with Pastor Alison S. Bowlan officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Columbia. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 12 Noon. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to Salem Lutheran Church, address above. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
