Richard J. Weaver, 64, of Leola, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the University of Penn Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John H. and Ruth G. (Wise) Weaver. He was married 29 years on Oct. 3 to Catherine (Johnston) Weaver.
Richard worked for the past 46 years for Horst Excavating in Lancaster most recently as a Field Superintendent.
He was an amateur photographer, enjoyed bird watching, hiking, gardening, hot air balloon enthusiast, and most importantly spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving, gentle and hard-working man. Loved by many and missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Richie, married to Christina (Albritton) Weaver of West Palm Beach, FL; a step-son, Matthew G., married to Carrie (Besterman) Wilson of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Grant and Claire Wilson; four brothers, Eugene Weaver and fiancé, Terry Blodis of Ephrata, John H., Jr., married to Linda Weaver of Schaefferstown, Kenneth Weaver of New Holland, and Gerald Weaver of Leola; and a sister, Linda Weaver of Akron.
Preceding him in death is a brother, David Weaver.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 10:00 am at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday from 9-10 am.
