Richard C. Meck, Sr., 87, of 88 Diller Ave., New Holland, died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy after a brief illness.
Born in Reading he was the son of the late Harry S. and Clarinda (Fox) Meck.
Richard worked for Fisher Welding for a time before owning and operating Meck’s Tavern in New Holland.
He was a member of the NRA and the New Holland American Legion Conestoga Post 662. During WWII he served in the US Army fighting in the Normandy Invasion, 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Army. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Since then he has enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving is a son, Richard C., Jr., married to Carolyn (Coover) Meck of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Brian Meck, Leslie Hoch, and Kristine Duff; seven great grandchildren, Veronica Alexis Meck Torres, Kelsey and Kyle Coover, Harry DeJesus, Haven Duff, and Meghan and Trista Hoch; and a brother, Fritz, married to Judy (Bowman) Meck.
Preceding him in death is a grandson, Mark Coover.
There will be no service however viewing will be held on Monday, Nov. 12 from 3-5 pm at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland.
