Richard A. Murphy, 69, of 118 Linden Dr., New Holland, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, from Pancreatic Cancer, at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Thorndale, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Rachel (Moses) Murphy. He was married 48 years on March 7 to Barbara A. (Katherman) Murphy.
Richard worked 34 years, retiring in 2006, from Pepperidge Farm.
He was a former member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church and the Thorndale Fire Company where he was a lifetime member. He received the Junior Fire Chief of the Year award in 1959. He also enjoyed Woodworking and Model Trains.
He served in the US Marines during the Cuban Blockade in 1962 and also during the Vietnam Era.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Dana, married to Rob Werner of Carrollton, GA, Kimberly, married to Bob Combs of Narvon, and Laura, married to Steve Ross of Parkesburg; six grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Werner, Morgan and Carter Combs, and Darren and Tiffany Ross; and two brothers, Charles W. “Bill” Murphy of Coatesville, and Vernon F. “Sonny” Murphy of Honey Brook.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Doris Anderson and June Ferdik.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 11 am at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland with the Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Chapel from 9:30 – 11 am.
