Robert Conklin

Robert Conklin, 75, of Strasburg, PA, passed away at home early Thursday, June 2, 2016 after a prolonged illness. His strong will and the love and support of his family and friends kept him strong through years of health setbacks.

He was born in Lock Haven, PA on October 10, 1940, the son of the late Gershon O. and Catherine Mihalik Conklin. He was a graduate of the Lock Haven Senior High School class of 1958. Robert married JoAnn E. Taylor of Lock Haven in 1963.

Robert is a veteran, spending two years overseas in Germany. He then enlisted as a member of the US Army Reserve until 1968.

Robert enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and frequented Penn State University football games. He was a lifelong member of the Castanea Fire Company, the Sons of Italy, and Forty & Eight Chateau. He also greatly enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Gershon Conklin; mother, Catherine Mihalik Conklin; and brothers, Gersham, Thomas, and William Conklin.

In addition to his loving wife JoAnn, Robert is survived by daughter Katherine A. (Lewis) Moore of Lancaster; daughter Gina (Dwayne) Gairo-Jennett of East Petersburg; son Robert T. Conklin of Leola; seven grandchildren: Aaron (Heidi) Moore of Northumberland; Lyssa (Stephen) Szabo of Denville, NJ; Courtney Foster of Red Hill; Sarah Gairo of New York, NY; Kymber and Taylor Moore of Sunbury; and Morgan and Kevin Jennett of East Petersburg; and great-grandchildren Katie and Carter Moore, Pyper (Moore) Long, Oliver Szabo, and Brielle Foster; as well as brothers David (Karen) Conklin and Marshall Conklin and two sisters, Joanne (Burt) Wilson and Peggy (Ron) Cingle.

A memorial honoring Robert will be held in Lock Haven, PA at a later date. Donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project through the Groff-High-Eckenroth Funeral Home in New Holland, PA.
