Robert T. Gerhard, 69, of Gap, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster he was the son of the late Philip S. Gerhard and Mary Emily Flury.

He worked as a self-employed blacksmith and farrier most of his life. He also did corrective shoeing for New Bolton Center in Kennett Square. After his retirement in 2010, he worked at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronks. He was a member of the ARA Rodeo Assoc., Eastern Shore Rodeo Assoc., Chester County Coon Club, and Paradise Sportsman’s Club where he was currently serving as director. He enjoyed the outdoors and going to Rendezvous.

Surviving is a son, Chance T. Gerhard of Gap; his fiancé, Barbara Bireley of Gap; a step daughter, Penny Hoffert of Gramby, CO; two step sons, John Barr of Pittsburgh, and Halston Glick of Gap; three brothers, Philip Gerhard of Lancaster, Harry Gerhard of Oregon, and Alfred Gerhard of Delaware; his former wife, Charlene, married to David M. Ross of Gap; and his dog, Katie.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2 at 2 pm at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with the Reverend Brad Rineholt officiating, with viewing from 1-2 pm. Please come dressed comfortably. To send the family online condolences visit us at www.groffeckenroth.com.
