Robert Parker Shears, 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Luther Acres in Lititz, where he had been a resident for the past 6 years.
He was born and raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey, the son of Ernest and Hester (Moore) Shears, and the stepson of Robert Smith. After graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1938, Mr. Shears started working for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, New Jersey. During World War II, he volunteered for the Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific Theater.
After his service, he continued his career at Prudential, while also earning his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Seton Hall University. He was a long-time resident of Whippany, New Jersey, and later moved to Williamsburg, Virginia in retirement. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland.
Mr. Shears was athletic in his youth, and enjoyed walking and swimming into his later years. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and listening to big band music. He enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii as his favorite destination. He loved his family, and always felt blessed to have had two wonderful marriages.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Dennis) Krick of Ephrata and Laurie (Kent) Ruch of Allentown; his stepson Robert (John Faraci) Hill of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith, who passed in 1985; his wife Shirley, who passed in 2010; his two stepsons, James and Steven Hill; a brother Richard Shears; and a step-brother Robert Smith.
Arrangements are entrusted to Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland. Mr. Shears will be laid to rest in Williamsburg, Va.
