Dr. Rodney R. Hoober, 86, of Morgantown, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Reading Hospital.
Born on September 20, 1928 in Lancaster and raised in New Holland, he was the son of the late Roy K. and Edith (Hess) Hoober. He would have been married 60 years on Feb. 19 to Grace (Emerich) Hoober.
He graduated from New Holland High School in 1946, Franklin and Marshall College in 1950 and Temple University School of Dentistry in 1954. He owned and operated Dr. Rodney R. Hoober Family Dentistry in Morgantown for 40 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Morgantown United Methodist for 30 years, and an active member of Hopewell Christian Fellowship.
He also performed dental exams for the Twin Valley School District, and did volunteer dental work for Teen Challenge Training Center. He did annual post graduate studies and was a Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry. He enjoyed hunting in Huntington County, along with gardening, fishing and avid reading.
During the Korean Conflict he served in the US Air Force.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Cynthia, married to Michael Santiago of King of Prussia, J. Mark Hoober of Leesport, Elizabeth Hoober of Morgantown, and Allison, married to Michael Ponsell of Morgantown; and two grandchildren, Emmett and Aila.
Preceding him in death are three sisters, Joyce Crandall, Barbara Krusen, and Sylvia Brackbill.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Christian Fellowship, 2286 Hopewell Road, Elverson with the Reverend Duane Britton and the Reverend Mark Kraybill officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, February 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Conestoga Christian School, 2760 Main St., Morgantown, PA 19543 or to Teen Challenge, PO Box 98, Rehrersburg, PA 19550.
