Ronald Lee Shumate, 64, of 219 Stone Quarry Rd., Leola, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. His wife, Alice (Kinsey) Shumate, survives.
Born in Churchville, MD, he was the son of the late William and Georgia (Adams) Shumate.
Ronald had been a construction worker and had last worked at Wilbur Chocolate. He was a member of the Conestoga Post 662, American Legion, New Holland, the Ephrata AMVETS, and the Otters, Lancaster. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and spending time with his two dogs and his friend Skip.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense and Vietnam Service Medals.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Michael married to Brandy Shumate, Bear, DE and Tim Shumate, Belair, MD; six grandchildren; and a brother Richard married to Arlone Shumate, Eugene, OR.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Mary Hickernell, Joan Terigoi, and William Shumate.
At his request, there will be no services. If desired, memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
