Russell L. Haas, 90, of Congressional Circle, Reading (Flying Hills), and formerly of Honey Brook, died at his home early Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Alice (Sweigart) Haas. Born in Gibraltar, Berks Co., he was the son of the late Charles and Minnie (Leininger) Haas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in North Africa and the Middle East. He was a member of Honey Brook U.M. Church, and Howell Lodge #405 F. & A.M., Honey Brook and the Reading Consistory. He was also a member of Honey Brook American Legion and New Holland V.F.W. Russell retired from Lukens Steel, as Materials Coordinator, after 31 years of employment. In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by a son Douglas L., married to Sally (Kinzer) Haas of Camp Hill, and daughter Deborah, married to Paul Oldham of Mohnton, four grandchildren: Molly wife of Christopher Cowan; James R. Haas; Rebecca Oldham; and Alexander Oldham; a great granddaughter Caleigh; a brother Robert, married to Annette Haas of Mohnton, and a sister Mary, married to Irvin Martin of Goodville; six step-children: Robert Martin, Dennis Martin, Larry Martin, Sharon Hartman, Jeff Martin, Brian Martin; 18 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia (Zoller) Haas; 11 brothers and sisters and a step-daughter Audrey Deihm. His funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 East Main Street, Terre Hill, PA, with Pastor Colleen Painter officiating. Interment will follow in the Honey Brook U.M. Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Berks Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 1170 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610 or to the Honey Brook United Methodist Church, P.
